General Summary of Position:
- The Infection Preventionist Specialist uses knowledge of infection prevention guidelines and regulatory standards of external accrediting agencies to ensure the risk of infection is minimized in the inpatient and outpatient care environments. Conducts regularly scheduled assessments and work closely with Sterile Processing and Ambulatory leaders to develop and implement infection control policies and protocols for those areas. Collaborates with Facility, Project Managers, and Life Safety leaders and provide infection prevention oversight of construction related activities, educate and assess the physical environment for infection risk, and provide recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, Microbiology or related science field is required.
- Five years of progressively more responsible infection prevention experience with knowledge of strategies related to construction/renovation, disinfection and sterilization, microbiology, epidemiology and statistics. Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and prioritize and schedule accordingly. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with a variety of personnel, patients and physicians.
- Certification in Infection Control is preferred. If RN, current District of Columbia licensure as RN is required.
